Rotherham Preview

Rotherham Vs Norwich Preview:

Formations:

● 5-3-2 or 5-4-1 in defensive 3rd

● 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1 in possession

● Against Burnley they were in a 5-3-1-1 with Barlaser as a single pivot behind two 8s (Rathbone and Odofin). Ben Wiles was a number 10 behind Washington. In the midfield and final 3rd this can become a 3-5-1-1 with a midfield diamond.

• The Rotherham forwards, the AM and WBs press aggressively.

• They look to counter quickly after a turnover in possession.

• Large space between back to front when opponent is passing in defensive 3rd, this could give Norwich space to pass through the lines and recieve between the lines.

• Barlaser is a key player in and out of possession. He shields the back line, provides a passing option in the build up, helps transition from back to front and supports attacks in the final 3rd.

• He makes up either a double or single pivot, acts as a playmaker and drifts to the edge of the attacking 3rd to support attacks.

• Ben Wiles is another key player in the build up and in the final 3rd.

• He provides a progressive passing option early in an attack and follows attacks into the box.

• Rotherham can be caught out with a high press blocking passing options to the WBs.

• The WBs are the out-balls for the CBs, if the WBs are caught too high or the passing lane is blocked, possession may be lost.

• This can lead to the wide CBs facing a 1v1 against a wide midfielder (qualitative superiority).
